  LX212

LX212 is a proprietary, bioerodible polymer implant that contains Lux Biosciences’ next generation calcineurin inhibitor LX211/ISA247.  It is designed to elute the active ingredient slowly and steadily to the surface of the eye. The next generation calcineurin inhibitor LX211/ISA247 is licensed to Lux Biosciences for ophthalmic use by Isotechnika, Inc.

LX212 is small and is implanted using a minimally invasive procedure. The drug product is under development in collaboration with a research team at the Center for Biomaterials at Rutgers University. The polymer was selected from Rutgers' proprietary polymer libraries to which Lux Biosciences has an exclusive, worldwide license for ophthalmic use. The polymer erodes slowly while in the tissue and its degradation products are resorbed by the body.

Assuming the target profile can be met, the product may be developed for severe dry eye. The implant should allow high and sustained local concentrations of the drug while producing very low systemic levels. The high local concentrations may translate into enhanced efficacy and the long-term delivery would ensure patient compliance.
